Altis Life is a popular life mission for Arma 3 filled with custom created scripts geared up so you can emerge yourself into character and interact with other people on the Island, At Roleplay UK the development team have been developing and improving the Altis Life mission since February 2014 (Over 3 years) on features to encourage some of the best Roleplay experienced online.
When people first purchase Arma 3 these days they are usually interested in joining a life server but there is usually a steep learning curve on what to do and how to get started and what server to join.
I have been part of the management team of Roleplay.co.uk for 3 years as well as founding Altislife.co.uk (our previous community name) so i have been involved in most of our ideas and decisions in creating the perfect roleplay stage so I am in a good place to do my best in creating the most helpful and useful Altis Life guide especially for those new to the server.
Before you get started please take the time to join 41,000 other Roleplayers by registering for free here: https://www.roleplay.co.uk/register/
The following things are required in order to get connected to Altis Life
- A PC that meets the Arma 3 System requirements
- A Steam account (Register here)
- A copy of Arma 3 (Purchased on steam here)
- A Stable Internet connection (Fibre recommended)
- A Roleplay UK Account (Register here)
- A mature approach to gaming and an open mind
Arma 3 can be purchased for around 40 dollars / 30 pounds, Before you make your purchase i cannot stress how worth the game is, I have personally got over 10,000 hours out of the game with Altis Life and other mods, It is very hard to find another game that will give you as much value.
Once you have done all of the above then its time to grab yourself a coffee or cup of tea and get stuck into the most detailed and most updated Altis Life guide you will find.
Altis Life Rules
The Rules are extremely important on our server, There is no other roleplay server online that enforces there rules so strictly to make sure the continuous flow of Roleplay is maintained and that trolls and people who think this is grand theft auto are kept off our Island.
Part of the founding story of our community was to create a serious roleplay server but also a very friendly “adult” community so citizens will enjoy their time here which for some members so far has been over thousands of hours each.
Do not let our rules put you off, They make look very detailed to start with but once you start playing you will see it really is just common sense! You will see the quality difference our rules are making if you compare your time on our servers to others.
To set the example and make sure players are following our rules all our bans are permanent unless successfully appealed here: https://www.roleplay.co.uk/guide/support/unban-appeal
How to Join Altis Life
This is an easy step however some people still have trouble searching for finding the server or thinking there is an external mod to download.
In-fact one of the most related searches in google is: “altis life download” and one of the most asked newbie questions on our forums are “How do i download Altis Life” so just to confirm the server does all the downloading with Arma 3 when you connect!
Roleplay UK has Three Altis Life servers which are at the following addresses.
To save filling this article with screenshots I will create a video on how to do this shortly on my Youtube channel but for now follow the following steps.
- Launch the Arma 3 Launcher.
- Click the servers tab on the left hand side.
- Click the internet tab at the top and in the filter box below type: Roleplay.co.uk
- You will then see our official servers come up with the mission named: Altis Life UK.
- Hover over the server and click on join.
- If you get a popup come up then click on “keep current selection and join”
- You will now be connecting, Once on select a purple civilian slot.
If you are more familiar with the in-game server browser and have passed the launcher stage then follow these steps:
- On the main menu on the top bar select “Multiplayer” then select “Server browser”
- In the server browser on the top tab select “Servers” and on the tab below select “Internet”
- At the bottom of the server browser click on “Filter” and in the host box type “Roleplay.co.uk” and click OK
- This will display a list of servers, Click on any server that reads [UK/EU] Roleplay.co.uk
- You will now be connecting to the server and the mission file will now download
- Once in select any free purple civilian slot and press ok in the bottom right
Great Success! you should now be connected to one of our dedicated servers and ready to land in our great Island.
There is also a teamspeak server which sees just under 400 people on at once at peak times, I Recommend you connect to this as there are help rooms which staff will join and happly answer any of your questions, also it is a great place to hang out with like minded people who might team up with you.
If you are connecting to our teamspeak server for the first time then the server will advise your security level is insufficient, Just press the start button after a few minutes the server will allow you to connect, Select a room and enjoy the good company!
Once you are in the server you will be presented with a screen that welcome’s you to the server that has basic information on and instructs people to read our rules, Have a quick read then press continue.
The server will now communicate with our database server to either setup your player information if you are new or grab your stats and information if you have joined the server before.
Once it has completed this step you will then be presented with the spawn menu which has various different spawn locations you can wake up in.
Kavala – This is the main city and where I recommend you start first of all in due to everything on the map being easy to get to and due to the fact it is usually the most populated area so you can experience some very good interactions here.
Athira – This is the second most popular spawn point for its close proximity to the Altis International Airport, More advanced users who do not want the chaos that Kavala can sometimes be tend to wake up here.
Pyrgos – This is the Island’s quietest town, Nothing really going on here currently other than people use it as a spawn to go in search of guns, I recommend as a new player you do not spawn here just yet.
Your House or Garage – You wont have one yet but once you have saved up enough and gone property searching your house will show on your spawn menu, You will be able to spawn in it, open and unlock the doors & keep a storage box there for items and weapons, If you purchase a garage you will be able to spawn there and then access your vehicles.
Licence Spawns – If you have purchased a licence for jobs like the ARAC (mechanics) or Taxi service then you will be able to spawn at this jobs HQ so you can start your shift, Having one of these roleplaying jobs in Altis can be very rewarding for Roleplay rather than money.
Faction Spawns – If you have successfully filled out an Application and accepted for the Police, NHS then you will be able to select the blue or green slot on login and your spawn menu will differ in the way it will contain Police stations or Hospitals however in a civilian slot if you have been accepted for the UNMC then there spawn will appear in this menu.
Once you have made your mind up of where you want to start your adventure select it and click on “spawn” you will then wake up in your selected location oh and…. Welcome to Altis you have made it safely!
Altis Life Controls
You may have played around with Arma a little already at least to know how to walk forward and open your mouth to reveal your beautiful voice, I do recommend for the first few sessions keep the table below handy and nearby or open on a secondary screen, It is going to be your guide in taking those first steps on the Island.

Altis Tablet Explained (Y Menu)
You will quickly work out that the RPUK Altis Tablet is going to be the most useful tool you have ingame, It is the place where you can do many actions which I will go through below in more detail
Home Screen Areas
Server Online – The first thing you will notice at the top is a time that is counting up to 4 hours, Our servers to remain stable restart every 4 hours at the following times: 00:00, 04:00, 12:00, 16:00 GMT/BST.
If you are in a different timezone just keep a eye in the tablet so you are aware when the server is about to restart so you can plan if driving across the Island to somewhere is worth it.
Weight – Situated in the top right hand corner of the tablet is the weight you can carry in terms of items, You can increase the weight by purchasing a backpack from any clothing shop.
Bank – You are able to see from the tablet how much you have in your current account and also how much you are carrying in your wallet, from this screen you can also give money from your wallet to people who are near by, To do this press the dropdown list and select the player then type the amount you wish to give them and press give.
In order to get money from your bank account you will need to visit an ATM or Bank which can be found by looking at your map by pressing M.
Licences – In the middle of the tablet the licences you own will be listed, They are required in some cases to stay legal and in other cases access certain signposts on the server, For more information about Altis Life licences click here.
Current Items – This shows a list of the current virtual items you have on you, This is where you can consume food and water and also give other players items etc.
Close – It does what it says! It closes the tablet but to let you into a little secret you can also press ESC.
Settings – In this area you can customize various aspects of your experience and in some cases where the player has a low powered PC adjusting these settings can increase your FPS, The options are as follows:
On Foot, In Car, In Air view distance (Please note: These can also be amended in your arma 3 video options)
Player Tags: On/Off | Sidechat: On/Off | Roleplay UK Hud: On/Off | Low Detail mode (removes grass): On/Off | Environment: On/Off
Groups – Our group system was written from scratch in early 2017 now allowing people to create a rebel group, mafia, business or bounty hunter group.
The group leader is able to manage the group by promoting members, removing members and disbanding the gang.
The leader can also ally the group with another group and there 3D markers will appear visible on the map, this is very useful if you wish to do a joint operation.
Key Chain – This lists all the keys you have on you for houses & vehicles and tracks the location in meters how far away that house or vehicle is… If one of them is moving and your stood still then start panicking… someone may have stolen your vehicle and be on the way to the scrap yard, You can also give keys to people here if you wish for a friend to lock and unlock your car.
Unlocking and Locking vehicles is remote so can be done as you approach your vehicle for quick access.
Mobile – From the Mobile you can message any player in the server and also contact the Police, NHS, ARAC (Mechanics), Taxi Service and if you encounter any issues an Admin if there are any online.
Sync Data – Our system sends your current stats to the database every few mins however there is a sync data button in the tablet which we recommend you press if you have made a large transaction into or out of your bank to make sure the database always has your latest data.
Market – If you are planning to go buy or sell some items then the market screen can be useful to quickly check on how much you need or will be rewarded.
Skills – Certain actions in Altis you do gives you XP which when you have enough turn into skill points you can spend on skills seen in this screen by selecting the skill you desire and pressing learn.
Please note the Altis Tablet is going thorough some feature changes currently, I will keep this article updated as and when things change.
At this point you should be ready to go and enjoy the Altis way of Life but before you do and before we explain other things lets talk about Roleplay!
As mentioned before we are a very serious Roleplay community, Infact we was the first to enforce this stance setting the standard on how Altis Life should be approached and the experience this gives keeps our members coming back to us daily for more, Roleplay is the most important thing for us and you’ll soon see why.
“We built the stage! You provide the story!”
Here are some simple basic steps to follow and help you get thinking and started
- Roleplay Everything! … Every situation you approach everything you do!
- Try and think up a character and give them a personality before joining the server and post there introduction/backstory here
- You need to be on mic, You cannot give others and yourself a good experience via text.
- Avoid metagaming… That name above someone’s head doesn’t exist.. ask for there name
- Be original, Entertain! the possibility’s are endless!
RP Signposts (Altis NPC’s)
Signposts dotted around the Island are places to buy, sell, process, make items and spawn vehicles.
They can be interacted with by walking up to them then using the middle mouse button to scroll on the options then press the middle mouse button to open the selected menu.
You will know you are at an intractable signpost as you will see the RPUK logo as seen in the image, Their locations are also marked on the Map (M)
In some locations like the fast food outlets or the drug dealer you will find that the NPC is an actual person, It works exactly the same as the signposts.
Lets start by looking at the shop menu which sells consumable items, You can find these listed on the map listed as “Market”
In Altis to Live your life just like in real life you need to eat and drink!
Here you can find favorites like baked beans, tea but also other one time use items like Fuel cans for vehicles and pickaxes for mining.
To buy & sell just click the item on the left for buy and on the right for sell and then in the number bar select how many you want to buy or sell and then press buy or sell item, Once done press close and if you goto your tablet (Y Menu) you will see the item and from there you can use/consume it.
